Outdoor Lighting Gold Coast
Garden, path, step and deck lighting, planned in the landscape design and built in as the garden goes in, with the electrical work done by a licensed electrician.

Bella Terra Group designs and builds outdoor lighting as part of the landscaping, from our base in Nerang and across the Gold Coast. Our garden lighting covers paths and steps, uplit trees and feature plants, and LED strips under decks and benches, with the electrical work done by a licensed electrician. Quotes are free and measured on site.

Lighting added after a garden is finished usually means cable pulled through new beds, or pavers lifted to reach a step. We plan it with the rest of the design, so the cabling goes in before the paving, decking and planting cover it.
Every light is drawn into the plan with the levels, walls and garden beds, so you can see where each one sits before anything is built. Our owner, Dion McGirr, manages each project from the first site meeting to handover and schedules the electrician’s work around the build.

Light and landscape
What Makes Garden Lighting Work?
Good garden lighting does two jobs. Path and step lighting lets you move around safely after dark, while feature lighting picks out the trees, plants and stonework worth looking at in the evening.
A garden lit only for safety looks flat, and one lit only for effect can leave a step in shadow. We plan both in the landscape design, so each fitting has one clear purpose.

The work
Our Outdoor Lighting Services
We design the lighting and build it into the landscaping, and a licensed electrician carries out the electrical work. Tell us how you use the space after dark and we’ll plan the rest.
Path, step and wall lighting
Path lighting is set low and aimed at the ground, so it lights the surface without shining in your eyes. Step lights are positioned in the design and their cabling laid before the steps are built, so each one sits neatly in the wall or riser.
Here’s what our path and step lighting covers.
- Step lights set into walls and risers
- Path, entry and driveway lighting
- Wall lights on rendered and stone-clad walls
- LED strip lighting under steps, benches and deck edges
- Lighting for pool landscaping and water features

Feature lighting for trees, plants and decks
Feature lighting decides how the garden looks from the house and the deck at night. We choose which trees, palms and planters to light during the design, and place the fittings before the beds are mulched.
Here’s what our feature lighting covers.
- Uplights for trees, palms and feature plants
- Deck and bench lighting, built in with new decking
- Lighting for outdoor kitchens and entertaining areas
- Marine-grade fittings for coastal and waterfront blocks

Lighting is easiest to plan before the landscaping is finalised, and a site visit is where that starts. We walk the garden with you, check where power can be reached and talk through the fittings and what they cost.
The process
Our Process
Lighting runs in the same three stages as the garden.

- Consultation and site assessment. We look at the paths, steps, planting and where power can be reached.
- An itemised quote. Each fitting and part of the build is priced separately, so you can see what the lighting adds.
- The build. We build in the order below, and Dion manages the project through to handover.
When Should Garden Lighting Be Planned?
Garden lighting should be planned at the design stage, because its cabling has to go in before the paving, decking and planting cover it.
- Design and light positions. Each light is marked on the plan, so every cable route is known.
- Earthworks, walls and drainage. The heavy work comes first, while machinery can still reach the site.
- Conduit and cabling. Conduit goes in under the future paving and decking, with the electrical work done by a licensed electrician.
- Paving, steps and decking. Step lights and LED strips are set into walls, risers and bench edges as they’re built.
- Planting and connection, last. Trees go in beside their uplights, then the electrician makes the connections.
Why Bella Terra Group
Choosing Bella Terra Group for Your Lighting
Our owner, Dion McGirr, has been in the trade for over 14 years. One client wrote that it was “great to have one person to help with our structural and soft landscaping,” and another that “we got a higher end finish than we could have come up with on our own.”
We build under QBCC licence 15452813, and the electrical work is done by a licensed electrician. Gregg Norton of Norton Electrical, a trade we work with, wrote after a job on “paved steps with LED under glow” that Dion was “very easy to get along with and knowledgeable.”

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does outdoor lighting cost on the Gold Coast?
The cost depends on how many lights you need, the type of fittings, the length of the cable runs and whether the lighting goes in during landscaping or after it. We visit, measure the garden and provide an itemised quote at no charge.
Can you add garden lighting to an existing garden on the Gold Coast?
Yes, although it’s simpler during a landscaping project. In a finished garden we plan cable routes around the paving and through the beds, so stone doesn’t have to be lifted to reach a light. If more landscaping is planned later, it’s worth adding the lighting then.
What garden lighting suits a coastal Gold Coast home?
Most garden lighting now runs on low-voltage systems, which are safer to install and easier to move, with mains power kept for fittings that need it. On coastal and waterfront blocks, marine-grade, corrosion-resistant fittings are worth choosing, because salt air wears ordinary fittings out quickly.
How do I choose an outdoor lighting company on the Gold Coast?
Ask who designs the lighting, whether it’s planned with the landscaping, and who does the electrical work. That should be a licensed electrical contractor, and you can check the licence number on the Electrical Safety Office’s licence search.
Does outdoor lighting need a licensed electrician in Queensland?
Yes. Electrical work in a Queensland home, including connecting hard-wired lights, must be done by a licensed electrician. We design and build the lighting into the landscaping, and a licensed electrician does the electrical work.
